What is the difference between Fire: 火 (ひ) vs 火事 (かじ)

Both and mean ‘fire’ in Japanese.

However there are some clear differences between the two meanings:

  • Fire or flame on a candle
  • Fire in a fireplace
  • Torch

  • Something is ‘on fire’
  • Blaze e.g. building or bushfire
